La rigidification de la coque a \u00e9t\u00e9 l&rsquo;un des objectifs prioritaires. Il est encore plus sophistiqu\u00e9 et s\u00fbr. Toujours fabriqu\u00e9 \u00e0 Graz en Autriche, le WJ b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie de sp\u00e9cifications europ\u00e9ennes, notamment en mati\u00e8re de comportement routier et de confort de suspensions.Direction plus pr\u00e9cise et pneus adapt\u00e9s \u00e0 une conduite rapide font partie du cahier des charges. Quadruples optiques rondes, calandre affirm\u00e9e et plus inclin\u00e9e, profil plus \u00e9lanc\u00e9, le WJ profond\u00e9ment restyl\u00e9 gagne 11 centim\u00e8tres en longueur, 4 en largeur et 6 en hauteur. L&#8217;empattement ne varie pas. Le V8 fait du Grand Cherokee une voiture de sport avec gamme courte en offrant une capacit\u00e9 de remorquage, une puissance, des reprises et des performances exceptionnelles.Toutes les motorisations sont accoupl\u00e9es \u00e0 une transmission int\u00e9grale permanente Quadra Drive \u00e0 r\u00e9partition progressive du couple de l&rsquo;essieu arri\u00e8re vers l&rsquo;essieu avant via un embrayage-pompe selon un rapport allant de 100\/0 \u00e0 50\/50.La bo\u00eete automatique demeure du type \u00e0 quatre rapports. Le passage en bo\u00eete courte bloque le diff\u00e9rentiel central.<\/p>\n<p>La gamme se compose des versions Turbo Diesel Laredo, Turbo Diesel Limited, six cylindres Limited et V8 Limited. Cette offre est reconduite pour les ann\u00e9es 2000 et 2001.Pour 2001, le Grand Cherokee \u00e9volue et devient le <strong>mod\u00e8le WG<\/strong>. La motorisation V8 est dot\u00e9e d&rsquo;une nouvelle bo\u00eete automatique \u00e0 cinq rapports et la finition Limited de jantes de 17 pouces. Les compteurs re\u00e7oivent des fonds blancs et le logo sur le volant est chrom\u00e9. Il est associ\u00e9 \u00e0 la bo\u00eete automatique \u00e0 cinq rapports du mod\u00e8le ML du m\u00eame constructeur. D&rsquo;abord disponible uniquement en finition Limited, il est livrable en version Laredo \u00e0 partir de janvier 2002. Une version muscl\u00e9e du moteur V8 munie de pistons haute compression est disponible au m\u00eame moment sous l&rsquo;appelation Overland. Elle se distingue par l&rsquo;adoption d&rsquo;un toit ouvrant \u00e9lectrique, d&rsquo;une finition en bois de s\u00e9quoia de l&rsquo;habitacle, d&rsquo;une sellerie peau sp\u00e9cifique, de r\u00e9troviseurs ext\u00e9rieurs chauffants, d&rsquo;une sortie d&rsquo;\u00e9chappement chrom\u00e9e et peut \u00eatre command\u00e9e en bleu fonc\u00e9 (Patriot), gris argent (Silverstone), anthracite (Graphite) et vert (Onyx). L&rsquo;Overland est aussi \u00e9quip\u00e9 de protections inf\u00e9rieures au niveau du r\u00e9servoir, de la bo\u00eete de transfert et de la suspension avant. Une nouvelle d\u00e9finition des suspensions permet de gommer les petites in\u00e9galit\u00e9s et de mieux contenir les transferts de masse lors de freinages appuy\u00e9s. Du c\u00f4t\u00e9 des freins, un nouveau ma\u00eetre-cylindre et de nouveaux \u00e9triers sont adopt\u00e9s. Les nouveaux r\u00e9troviseurs \u00e0 surface convexe ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tudi\u00e9s pour une meilleure filtration des vibrations. Le Grand Cherokee Limited re\u00e7oit les jantes aluminium cinq branches r\u00e9serv\u00e9es auparavant \u00e0 la version Overland.
